Online Opportunities

  • FIU and the College of Engineering and Computing offer a variety of opportunities for online and distance learning. FIU offers the University Core Curriculum (UCC) online.
  • The College offers a number of undergraduate as well as graduate level courses online, including the Online Master of Science in Construction Management.
  • The College is part of the Florida Engineering Education Delivery System (FEEDS), a statewide initiative for online engineering education.

  • With close to $20 million of external funding, research is an integral part of the College’s mission and its success.
  • The College houses 25 state-of-the-art research facilities, including research centers, institutes and laboratories.
  • The College embeds significant research experience in its undergraduate curriculum. Research is supported by centers of excellence, where faculty and students work with cutting-edge technology, and which major federal agencies and a large number of major corporations fund.
  • The College’s distinguished faculty is recognized by the university for excellence in teaching, research and service, and has received numerous national awards for innovative development. Faculty members provide consulting services to national and international organizations and serve as officers in leading professional societies.

Multiple Campuses

  • The College is situated at the FIU Engineering Center — a 250,000-square foot building on 38 acres situated less than two miles from the University Park Campus, and at the Computing and Information Sciences (ECS) building located at the University Park Campus.
  • For the convenience of our students who live farther north of the city, we also offer classes at the Biscayne Bay Campus in North Miami, as well as at the Pembroke Pines Center in Broward County.

Accomplished Faculty and Students

  • The American Society for Engineering Education ranked the college’s faculty ninth in the country and first in Florida in terms of productivity.
  • The College is in the top 10 among engineering schools in terms of the diversity of its student body, the largest producer of Hispanic engineers, and one of the top producers of African-American engineers and females with doctoral degrees in engineering.
  • Biomedical Engineering has the highest percentage of Honors students at the undergraduate level.
  • The college is second in the country in number of Bachelor of Science degrees awarded in computer science.
  • The College has the second largest number of degree programs in engineering in the State of Florida.

 A Culture of Success

  • The College’s Solar Decathlon student team Won #1 in the Energy Balance Competition, was Voted Most Popular in DIY Network, and finished #13 overall in an unparalleled solar competition to design, build, and operate the most attractive and energy-efficient solar-powered home.
  • THE ABC Student Chapter from FIU’s OHL School of Construction is a two-time champion of the Associated Builders and Contractors’ annual Student Chapter Construction Management Competition, winning the coveted title in 2006 and 2012.
  • The College’s Motorola Nanofabrication research facility is the leading facility of its kind in the state of Florida.
